Now having had this more invasive tinnitus for nearly four years now (quite
different from the other form I lived with for 20 years previously), I have
some rather strange and seemingly unconnected observations.
1. Doritos make my ears ring louder. (I've tried it several times, and every
single time I eat them, within about two hours...it's louder!)
2. Wine makes my ears hum...red or white, doesn't matter. Alcohol consumption
in general causes a very bizarre symptom of incoming noises echoing in my head
the next day, and possible two.
3. Deep, deep, breathing sometimes calms down the noise.
4. Any long noise, whether loud or not, such as driving in a car, causes a
louder humming which takes a while to go away.
5. Acupuncture helps me. But is only one specific treatment, where the
needles are inserted around the jaw joints.
6. Whatever happened to me in May of 1997 has put me on a path of seemingly
increasing noise no matter what I do. I was pregnant at the time, suffering
from months of a sinus infection, and taking Tylenol and Sudafed on a daily
basis. One morning, the ringing was just louder, and I suddenly had an
intolerance to noise. Some days it is worse than others.
7. Where I once had ringing caused by noise, I now have ringing, humming,
buzzing, hyperacusis, dizziness, confusion....the list goes on and on. I just
do my best to get through every day, but some days I really struggle. I wonder
what my life would be like without this torture.
