I had the very same experience, went to hospital emergency ENT and turned
out that this was mild sudden deafness ... was treated succesfully with
IV-fluids.
Have had 7 attacks now in 2,5 yrs - 2 major ones in which case I had to have
the IV's for a week + hyperbar oxygen treatment.
So far, I have been lucky each time and recovered.
I don't think consulting an ENT at this point is "luxury".
