I came here to see how others cope with this lousy affliction and
learn about how they do in a positive way. Unfortunately I found that
much take out their anger and frustration on others. Some have a more
abrasive style of communication than others and it leads to a pathetic
personal flaming war which indicates many here have nothing else to do
but live to moan, groan, and stack chips on their respective
shoulders. Get off Dr. Nagler's back, everyone else I'm not familiar
with, live and let live, and do something useful. I've heard less
bitching in a cancer ward. All of us hate this damn annoyance and I
hear enough whining in our own ears that we don't need to exacerbate
it by hearing it on this NG as well.
Here's my idea. It seems that everyone here has some unique symptoms
and their own little solutions to deal with their T. Perhaps we can
start a thread to describe our own experiences and how we have learned
to cope with our T -- our own tricks of the trade. What did I learn
here after wading through the personal crap? That coffee seems to
irritate many and cause their T to get louder. There are a couple of
other substances that do the same, e.g. ginkoba. Neither affected me
but an intersting observation. Here are my unique experiences and what
I do about them.
I notice that when I'm in open space, even quiet open space, my T is
barely noticeable at all -- sweet. If I'm in an office or very small
room it starts to become un-freaking-bearable and incredibly loud.
Since I only have it in one ear I tend to find that if I sit with the
ear that has the T facing the door, the T is much lower so I face my
chair to the wall so that my ear faces the door. Much improved.
I also realize that covering my ear can be devastating as well, but
especially when the TV is on -- when it makes that high pitched sound.
Not so bad if I'm sitting up but if I lie on my side with my ear with
the T pressed against the pillow or near it, the T gets much, much
worse. I use the "ear to the open space" rule and it helps me greatly.
Strangely enough, the T is not as bad with an ear plug in the ear with
the T as it is when there is no plug but I'm in a very small room,
especially one with carpeting on the floor and relatively "dead" air.
With a live room, e.g. tile floors, it is not as bad. I find the more
carpeting the worse it can get.
I know that my T, and maybe T in general, has something to do with the
ambient field. The lack of ambience will cause the T to be much worse.
Well, that's a small summary of my experience. Maybe some here will
read this and try it out for themselves. I hate this more than almost
anything but I do what I can to avoid the problem by playing by the
rules of minimal annoyance. The more rules I can develop the less
irritating my life will be. I don't like the fact that I cannot sleep
on one side but so freaking what? I'll sleep on the other side and be
damn thankful that I don't have diabetes like many others I know.
Sincerely yours,
