I find that the computer fans, vibrations, high frequency sounds etc bother and irritate my tinnitus. I wanted to eliminate these sounds as much as possible. After visiting this general page on noisey computers:
http://home.swipnet.se/tr/silence.html
and looking at some of the solutions I came across the best way to silence the computer, which was to build a box to put it inside. It was primarily inspired by these 2 pages:
http://www.lysator.liu.se/~forsberg/silence_box.html
http://w1.857.telia.com/~u85704001/docs/lada22gb.html
I have just build the box and tested it, and there is a very signicant reduction in noise. It is practically silent and still have not add any foam insulation. The box I made is not like the 2 above but similar (my own design). The cost to make this was less than $75CDN (wood + hinges+ two 8cm fans). Im thinkin of making a webpage with a
full description of this box and construction.
I have a p2 300, 3 quantum hd +cd. If you have a newer system and want even more air removal theres a blower fan for about $20CDN which is installed like a pci card and uses a hard drive connector for its power, heres a review:
