If you feel that the noise in your ear is worsened by loud noise, you should probably wear earplugs. Damage to ears by using earplugs occurs over a long period of time when they are overused (e.g. wearing them frequently, even during normal activities). Earplugs can be bought over the counter or from an audiologist. Most drugstores have various types of earplugs. The ones from an audiologist are custom fit to your ear, but they cost over $100. In any case, you should probably see a doctor or audiologist about your tinnitus. Perhaps there's an underlying medical condition causing your tinnitus that they can address.
