Hormone Replacement Therapy and Tinnitus

There are a few documented cases of HRT-induced tinnitus. It is rare; it appears to be caused by the estrogen. Women who take projestins with estrogen may experience relief of tinnitus symptoms. Others (such as me!) do not enjoy reduction or abatement of tinnitus symptoms with combination therapy. One documented case tells of a woman who upon initiation of HRT experienced severe tinnitus with loss of hearing in one ear. Discontinuing the HRT brought complete abatement of the symptoms of tinnitus.
