I had the buzzing and pain for 3 1/2 before the TMJ was diagnosed. I came to realize that I probably had TMJ (in a milder form) earlier (I had a few "jaw-locking" episodes--ow!--but that, oddly enough, didn't recur when the tinnitus started). I've been wearing a splint 24/7 for several months. It's helped quite a bit, but I still live in almost constant pain. I think the TMJ tissue is healing nicely, and the buzzing had subsided some, but I still have days when it's excruiating and disabling. Unfortunately, I wonder if I have a "worthless" splint. Don't worry--I'll check with regular medi/dental sources--but I've found that's there a lot of ignorance and confusion in the medi community on this subject as well (no drumroll--I suspect most, if not all, of you have been there).
