I don't see the comparison with heroin. If you miss a tab, you don't notice
it. You don't crave Xanax if you are on the protocol.

Larry, before I tried Xanax, I'd had 40 years with tinnitus, a career,
husband, two kids. I was so sleep deprived that I was afraid of falling
asleep driving these kids to school. Something had to be done. I could
handle tinnitus except at night. Being deaf with no other relief, I lay
awake and daytime was rather a dangerous situation for me. So, yes, I would
rather be functional, "here" for my kids, than becoming totally
dysfunctional from sleep deprivation. Should I have to go off Xanax, there
is a protocol to do it over many weeks, as there is for hundreds of drugs
you wouldn't think of as addictive. In the meantime, I've been lucky to
have internists who understand tinnitus, Xanax, and me. I've had no side
effect except being better able to focus and function in the hearing world.
