Found this on a nutrition ng. Note the mention of tinnitus.

I am hyperinsulinemic and have been on a high protein, relatively low carb
diet (not as strict as Atkins, the Zone etc.) for the past 8 months since my
condition was diagnosed. I have trouble sticking to the diet, but am
getting better all the time and am eating masses less carbs than I used to.
I first noticed my acne disappeared, then my severe tinitis in the ears
went, my energy has improved heaps, I sleep better and I have finally just
had my first 'normal' period in over 5 years! (ie my last one was 4 weeks
ago - not 8, not 10 but 4!)
Problem is, in the 10 days before my period I still have the severe carb
cravings I have always had, and I mean so severe even with my fairly good
willpower, i just give in. I am trying to be as good as possible about it
and eat healthier carbs (bowls of home made, natural muesli with no fruit
but lots of nuts, home made oatmeal and coconut cookies with honey and
artificial sweetener etc.), but my dietician would still be mortified.
What is it with this time of month that I have to have Heaps of carbs. I
will turn up to Uni late in order to make and eat half of a batch of
cookies...I will skip tea because I'm so full from bread, cereal etc only to
have another bowl of muesli later! Do i need extra at this time of month
and is it actually OK for me to eat a lot of carbs?
Or is it really bad and is there something I can take/do to minimise my
cravings?
Please help.
