My Experience

When I went to an ENT, all he did was look for ear wax (lots!) and for fluid
behind the eardrum (none)! (No pure-tone hearing test, even.) He did give me
a referral to an audiologist for the ABR and another test (OAE?). When I
called the audiologist, he was sure I should have one more test on top of
those. No one volunteered the information how much any of this would cost.
When I found out...! Well, I decided to check if my insurance would cover it.
My HMO "gatekeeper" (damn these plans!) said that an ABR wasn't necessary,
but if my T persisted (and I insisted), we could "cut to the chase" and get
an MRI. So I haven't had any of those tests. (Luckily, I have no reason to
suspect serious hearing damage, and my T is no real issue now.) Sandy
