When I began taking Lipitor some time ago, I had a sudden severe
flareup of tinnitus. A web search showed that tinnitus is one of the
reported side effects of Lipitor. My files contain a printout of
http://www.rxlist.com/egi/generic/atorvastatin_ad.htm which says T was
reported in fewer than 2% of cases. (Atorvastatin is the generic name
for the drug marketed as Lipitor by Parke-Davis.)
An ad for Lipitor that spread over most of two pages in the 3/28/99
Washington Post Magazine was followed (on the next page, in very fine
print) with 2/3 page of medical caveats that contained the same
information.
I have since corresponded with one or two others who claim to have had
their hearing impaired as a result of using the drug. I gather,
though, that the occurrence of this side effect is rather uncommon
since there seems no flurry of positive responses to several questions
on the matter in this newsgroup during the past week.
