Here is a very interesting link of what is being done with umbilical cord
stem cells, hence avoid the whole fetus issue.

_1177000/1177766.stm These stem cells managed to repair some brain damage
from strokes.
Also, PBS just broadcasted a show relating to stem cells. If you go to
http://www.pbs.org/saf/1107/ , and click on "Born Again Nerves", you can get
an idea of the potential of this research. The first 10 minutes of the
program is excellent and explains how the stem cells can actually completely
heal a severed spinal cord. Literally a several millimeter segment of
spinal cord was removed from the Rat's back. Some stem cells were injected
into the Rat's injury area, and after some healing the Rat could walk again.
(There's more to it than this, but I am simplifying for the moment.) The TV
schedule is on the same page and you can see when this program airs in your
area.
If brain and spinal cord nerve damage can be repaired with stem cells, why
not auditory hearing damage which in some cases is the cause of tinnitus?
Right now we have various treatments for tinnitus like TRT, drugs, masking,
etc. These are good for now, but I would like to see a cure eventually.
Anybody have any ideas how to direct tinnitus research into this area or if
its already being done?
Thanks,
-Peter
