You are right. If you are not comfortable with your ENT's suggestion, get a
second opinion. Even a third. It is your life and your choice.

Doctor's are not God even though some may play the part. I had one that
prescribed Valium back in the mid 60s. After taking a few I stopped and
threw them away. My doctor was mad. A few years ago I saw a TV special on
people trying to withdraw from Valium after taking it for a long time. Some
died. Other's suffered tremendously.

Since reputable doctors warn against the test it is best to be very safe.
Maybe the ENT has read their findings.

It's your life and you are ultimately responsible for it. If the test turns
out tragically, the ENT might not see you again as a patient. People have
reported that happening.
